Claro vs Movistar

There are two main cell phone companies here in Peru. Claro, and Movistar. They are always battling and fighting each other. Almost every building or store has a sign from one of the two companies. The Claro company appeals more to the techy, artsy, alternative people. Movistar appeals more to pop, emo, rocker people. That is just the conclusion i have drawn from the marketing schemes.

My question to everyone who reads this is.... Which logo do you like better?

Ill keep my eyes out to post some pictures of exactly what I mean by a battle. Its pretty crazy!
So which logo do you like better?

Wiggin' Out

Truth!

hello friends

Renee here! Mr. Call has instructed me to post so I decided to introduce myself. I may or may not post in here frequently, but I guess knowing who I am so you're not confused can be important? So yes. I am Renee. Or you can call me Nay if you please. And here are some pictures of things that I love (this is not all encompassing, because there really is no time or space for that, but here are the first few things that popped into my mind AND that I had pictures handy of haha):

My hamster, Benjamin

How I Met Your Mother

Peanut Butter Chip cupcakes from Sprinkles

going to shows

amazing family <33

So maybe I will see you all around. Farewell for now.

Great Marketing.

There is this hot drink called Anis. It is supposedly good for helping your stomach feel better. I used to drink it all the time when I was up in the mountains in Cajamarca. Its not so good. This is one of the most popular brands of Anis...

Not quite sure where they got that name......

I have a body!

I was thinking today. I am so glad to have a body. I am so glad that I can feel. Often we look past how beautiful it is to hurt. Sometimes I feel alone out here, but that is when i focus the most on others, and that is when I find the greatest joy. I know who I am, and there is nothing better then knowing what I am doing, and that it is right. I love the amazing people i have met, and the people that have stayed with me through it all. Thank you so very much. I LOVE YOU FRIENDS!

Campiones!

Holler Therrrr. Things have been going good her in the Pizzle. Lets see... nothing to new. I am on a role because I got a letter and a box of Zebra Cakes (my Favorite) from danielle. I am feeling much love. Speaking of love i wanted to share a story with challl.
I want to tell you about one of the coolest families i have met in all my time here in Trujillo. They live out in the center in a small beat down house - Husband Wife and 3 boys. It remenids me of my family. They just welcomed me in and fed me one day. It was incredible, and I felt such a feeling of love in their home.
Anyways... we have been needing to paint our house, and we decided to have this family do it so that they could make a little moniesss.. They are pretty poor.
It wasnt a huge job or anything, but we bought all the supplies and got it ready for them. The Dad of the fam came with his 2 older sons and started working on it. They finished in 8 hours... They wanted 30 peruvian soles for their work, but I gave them 200. When the man saw the money he just begain to cry. That is seriously like 20 days of work here. It made me happy to share a little bit.

Sooo... this is a picture of that awesome family on the day of the Moms birthday. WHAT CHAMPIONS.

I LOVE THEM

IT CAME!

PROVE IT!

Trip to the Big House.

Holler you ballers. Yesterday I took a trip to a place called Casa Grande to perform in a little talent show. I had a blast and it was really cool to get to know another part of Peru. This is where the largest wave in the world is and also... its famous for just having millions of acres of sugarcane. It almost reminds me of something you would see in the mid-west with corn fields... the only difference is it is sugarcane and it completely blocks your view from all sides. The talent show was a blast. I love when the kids have to perform and they really dont want to. I spent like an hour kicking giant grasshoppers at little kids.... LONG STORY. Enjoy these pictures... not the best but surely not the worst.

Starting the car ride through the dusty roads and sugar cane

Giant trees in the middle of sugar cane fields...

The town movie theater... not quite like a DLD show.

Setting up for the "show"

The long desert road back to Trujillo...

I HAD A BLAST!!! There was so much sugarcane and Crickets... it made me miss a warm summer night on tour, but there is nothing better then serving people here... and its probably the only place you can see dogs painter purple.

Huanchaco Beach

Hey there. Today we were able to do something a little different. We headed to the Beach... Trujillo is known for its beach towns and surfing and that is where I have been living for the last couple of months. This one is called Huanchaco... it is actually close to one of the beaches that has the longer surfing wave in the whole world! I had no idea!

We got dominated by the sun, and played a lot of Frisbee and soccer on the beach. It was amazing!

Just to keep up with the snacks theme... here is me and a friend enjoying Moguls and Inca Kola. Its freaking good!

Here is a hint of whats to come.

I am not really sure how this blog turned into food the last 3 or 4 posts but its all good. Thats one of the things that makes Peru amazing. Especially the little treats they have. This one is called Cua Cua...

Its like peanut butter wafers... Many of the random brick walls have little images painted on them. I found this one today while i was walking. Make me think of Jock... CHUACK.

EL SABOR DEL PERU!

You know what else is good?

INCA KOLA. It is amazing. From what I remember it really isn't in the US. They drink so much of this stuff here. To me it tastes like bubble gum a little. There really is nothing else like it. I drink this like seriously everyday.... arent you a little jealous?'

This is where I used to live.

Cajamarca... I was here for so long. It was amazing! If anyone wants to know anything cool... Cajamarca is the place where the Inca Empire came to an end; the Battle of Cajamarca and the capture and execution of the Incan emperor Atahualpa took place here.

Want to read more?

I hear there is some mail on the way.

Bowling....

I was just thinking of my friends, and thinking about how fast the time is passing. I set a goal to keep in better touch with my friends, and write more hand written letters. I MISS YOU GUYS. I actually haven't got a handwritten letter from a friends in over 2 months now and its kinda bumming me out. So if you write me a letter I will write you one back. I know i need to do better. SO HOLLER AT ME. I want to get caught up!

This is a foto from about 2 years. I miss playing bowling because we used to make punishments if we didn't achieve a certain goal. This is us losing and realizing that we had to get air-soft shots in the chest... It really made the games intense.

I MISS YOU GUYS!
